(With Michaela Fofanah)
Normally when it’s time to talk about the cleaning of the city, the first thing that comes to one’s mind is what Freetown City Council is doing.
Well we all know that Freetown City Council is the main outfit responsible for cleaning and beautifying the city.
To be fair enough, Freetown City Council is trying hard to keep the city clean but the question is, WHAT ARE WE THE CITIZENS DOING TO KEEP OUR CITY CLEAN?
We all know that Freetown has become an over populated city and there are so many things that are littering the city especially waste plastic water packets.
People in this country have made it a habit to deliberately avoid the dustbins located around the city to throw rubbish around which causes a lot of filth within the city.
Freetown City Council was doing well in keeping the city clean but it seems as if they are getting tired or there is not enough money to utilize and have decided to take a break.
Other cleaning agencies have been doing their little bit but you will agree with me that there is still more to be done to help the city to look clean and smell well.
Our attitude concerning cleaning in the city will take us a long way, talking about change of attitude initiated by the President is just one thing we Sierra Leoneans need.
If we can’t keep our homes filthy, why should we be keeping the city filthy by dropping dirt all over the streets ofFreetown?
When you are passing along the streets of Freetown, you will notice dustbins attached to NPA poles or banks; they are not there to decorate the streets but for us to drop litter in them in order to keep mama Salone’s city clean.
A scripture says cleanliness is next to Godliness.
In other words, cleanliness is very important, not only for the city but for our individual decency.
I still hope that our darling Mayor will try hard to put back the cleaning task force to work and the cleaning bye-law back into operation.
I am appealing to all good Sierra Leoneans to please keep their environment clean and the City Council, to please send their vehicles on time to cart away garbage.
