Premier League kicks off today

Mr. Rodney Michael, Chairman, Premier League Board

After all the hullabaloo surrounding the racist comments made by the acting President of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Mr. Joseph Samba Keifala, which fallout led to the brief suspension of the Premier League by the Sports Minister, Mr. Paul Kamara , reports reaching this paper indicate that the league matches will resume today.

In an interview with the Premier League Board Chairman, Mr. Rodney Michael, he stated that their matches will commence today at different venues across the country.

He paid tribute to the leading betting company, Mercury Intentional for sponsoring them but stated that they were still looking out for more sponsorships as a way of boosting the league.

He revealed that in today’s encounter in Bo, the newly promoted FC Johansen will play Bo Rangers in the first match at the Coronation Field, while in Kenema the young boys from Kissy All Stars will battle with the Kambo Eagles of Kenema at the Kenema Field, and in Freetown to what football fans are referring to as the biggest game of the day, the current champions, Port Authority, will lock horns with their arch rivals, the East End Lions at the National Stadium Main Bowl.

Speaking to AYV Sports ahead of today’s encounter at the National Stadium, Mr.  Musa Sesay, the Head of the Media Team of Ports Authority FC, stated that the match will not be an easy one but as defending champions they will have to prove to fans that they can defend the title and retain it again.

He said they have enormous respect for East End Loins as they have young and talented players, but that their team has young and quality players who can deliver, pointing out that they were going to use this match as a way of strengthening their team for the CAF Champions League next year.
