The United Democratic Movement (UDM) has called on two members on the Board of Trustees of the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) to resign as their stay on the board was bound to bring about a conflict of interest.

They are Messrs Easmond Ngakui representing the Sierra Leone Bar Association, and Festus Minah, representing the Civil Society Movement.

According a press releases issued by the party on Monday, February 20, the decision to ask these two gentlemen to resign their positions was reached after serious consultations with party members and other stakeholders nationwide whose consensus is that the presence of these two men will impact negatively on the impartiality of the board.

The releases further reiterated that these two men are actively involved in political activities, as while Mr. Ngakui is the Legal Adviser of the opposition sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP), Mr. Minah who is the Acting Chairman of the SLBC Board of Trustees, is the chairman of the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) Constituency in the Pujehun District.

The release further observed that owing to the that fact that people in high profile positions, more especially the SLBC should not be seen in political activities as it will undermine their work, it is therefore prudent that in order to maintain independence, impartiality and neutrality, these two men should resign their positions or be recalled immediately by the organizations they are representing on the board.
