‘Politicians who cross carpet are sugar ants’ – SLPP Hon. Tamba Sam

By Zainab Kanu

The Publicity Secretary of the opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP), Hon. Musa Tamba Sam, has said that the issue of politicians cross carpeting over to the Government of the day is not new in Sierra Leone.

In an exclusive interview with AYV over the weekend, Hon Sam said as long as politicians find themselves out of power they believe that the only way they can survive is by declaring for the party in power.

However, he described the attitude as lack of integrity of such politicians because they betray the trust of the people who voted for them.

He also noted that if politicians are really true to their consciences they should realize that they have a sacred duty of representing the aspirations of their people and not crossing over in order to be compensated by the Government of the day.

“I refer to such politicians as not only unstable, but also as men and women who are selfish and morally bankrupt,” said Hon. Sam.

He observed that as far as he is concerned such politicians should not be treated seriously because they are corrupt and dangerous.

He also called on the Government of the day to start rejecting such politicians who he described as ‘sugar ants’.

Meanwhile, Hon. Sam described the latest defection of the Kailahun District Chairman, Retired Lieutenant Colonel Tom Nyuma, as a non-issue, reiterating that no amount of defections from the SLPP will rob them of the opportunity to win the elections come November 17 this year.
