Internal Affairs Minister, Honourable Musa Tarawally

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr. Musa Tarawally, has stated that the Shares Moses Commission report that was recently made public is biased as it displayed a direct ploy by the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) to destroy his hard won reputation as it did not explain his own side of the story.

Talking to this paper in an exclusive interview, he maintained that he was very happy that the Government White Paper has been released in which his own side was reflected.

He also stated that the SLPP has attacked him many times and that they have even mobilized ex-combatants, party stalwarts and Poro society members to assassinate him but for the swift intervention of the Sierra Leone Police.

He also explained that when he visited the authorities in Gendema to talk to them he was informed by some of his friends in the SLPP that they were going to attacked him which they succeeded by doing in the morning hours of that fateful day.

Mr. Tarawally confirmed that the SLPP sees him as a threat and they are doing all they can within their power to destroy him.

He further explained that the SLPP knows fully that he has a very strong influence in the South-East of the country which is why they are using state institutions to release their vengeance on him and even using the Shears Moses Commission of Enquiry to carry out their sinister plot against him.

“There is no way the SLPP can disconnect me and the people so they are using their elite cells to stage manage bad public opinion about me. All the violent incidents they are associating me with are false,” he noted.

He explained that the Shears Moses report was essentially set up to investigate an SLPP allegation, adding that all those who gave evidence before the Commission were SLPP members who made false statements against him.

He disclosed that in 2007 he advised the Government to beware of undercover SLPP operations to use credible institutions to target key people in the Government.

He explained that the confessions of Messrs Ahmed Ben Kamara, Mohamed Jabbie and others were the workings of God as he had nothing to do with their decision.

He added that he has very strong evidence to ascertain the facts that the violence that took place in Gendema during that bye-election were well planned by the SLPP hierarchy to kill him.

When asked if he is going to resign based on the report, he said he saw no reason to do so as the report is not correct.

“I have confidence in President Ernest Bai Koroma and I know that he is a God fearing man who will thoroughly investigate matters before he takes decisions,” he observed.

He said he is a God-fearing man who comes from a very religious family with decent morals.

He revealed that when he took office as Minister of Internal Affairs one of the major problems he immediately tackled was the issue of violent cliques and gangs, which he succeeded in transforming into anti violence organisations.

“I am a peaceful person with the main focus to foster peace and tranquillity in this country,” he concluded.
