The National Women’s Leader of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) who is also the President of the All Political Party Women’s Association (APPWA), Mrs. Isata Kabbah, has said that profiling women who will be contesting for various political positions will build the confidence of these women.
She explained that to achieve this objective they have decided to start supporting and profiling women candidates because when they become well known by members of the public and the communities they will stand greater chances of winning elective positions.
She observed that even though some of these women are well known, profiling them will also serve as a form of endearing them to the people to win their hearts and minds to receive their support.
Mrs. Kabbah also said that even though the three hundred women who will be vying for various positions is a small number, she noted that at least it is an encouraging number as it will let the men folk understand that the women no longer intend to give them an easy ride.
To help profile these women, she noted that the media and development partners have a major role to play, as these women depend on them to help them in their campaign.
“What we as women need now is support and the zeal to go about our campaigns,” she stressed, “and we expect the Government of Sierra Leone to support us regardless of the political affiliations we may have,” she concluded.
