The Koindugu District Vice Chairlady, Madam Iye Bah Jawarah, who resides at 4 Lamina Street in Kabala together with two hundred and two members from the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC), have declared for the opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party in Kabala over the weekend, this paper has been reliably informed.
The reports say that the defection took place when the running mate to the flagbearer of the SLPP Dr. Kadi Sesay visited the people of Koinadugu in late March this year.
Explaining the reason for their defection, Madam Iye Bah Jawarah she said that they are dissatisfied with the APC leadership especially those in Koindugu district.
She further stated that before the death of Madam Jenneh Kandeh most of them were promise to be given scholarships to go to the Holy land of Mecca, but that these scholarships were never given to them.
Mrs. Jawarah also explained that as a result of her hard work the APC had garnered a lot of support in the district but that when the district executive body was restructured they forced them to accept Dr. Alhaji Fasineh Samura as the Chairman whilst Madam Kadie Koroma became the district chairlady.
She said this did not go down well with her and a lot of the members who decided to leave the party and join the SLPP, vowing that she was going to bring a lot of such members to the SLPP.
In an interview with the Zonal Chairlady of Bankoleya, Mrs. Aminata Kamara, she confirmed that she defected with her entire Zonal Executive members to the SLPP.
Responding to this latest development, the Koinadugu District Organizing Secretary of the opposition SLPP, said they were very happy to receive the defected members, referring to them as returning to where they belong.
“Now that they have come back to their party, I want to assure them that we have space for all of them,” he stated.
He observed that they expect more APC members in the district to defect to them, predicting that this will make them win all the Parliamentary and Councillorship seats in the district.
