Women in the Media Sierra Leone (WIMSAL) will today host an elections training workshop at the United States of America Embassy at Hill Station in Freetown.

This training has been designed by WIMSAL as part of its strategic development plan, a document that is guiding the running of the organization.

WIMSAL members believe that elections are a topmost priority for them because they maintain that Journalists play a major role in elections.

According to the WIMSAL Chairperson in the Southern Region, Ms. Theresa M. Munda, they are happy to be part of the training as they believe that this training will expose them on how to cover elections.

She noted that elections in Sierra Leone have been perceived as activities not meant for women, but that after the war, most women have come aboard and are taking active part in politics.

She also noted that even though most of their colleagues are not benefiting from many media activities, they were very happy for the opportunity to get the training.

She also stated that even though the time frame for the training is short, she expects that participants will learn a lot about the elections and the role of women in elections.
