Chief Administrator outlines challenges facing projects implementation

The Chief Administrator of Bonthe Municipal Council, Mr. Morrison Farmer, has said in Bonthe that he was dissatisfied at the slow pace in which projects were being supported in the island by the Local Government Ministry.

Speaking to this paper, Mr. Morrison said funding from the Government to the municipal island is a huge challenge for his administration, noting that since 2010 the Municipal Council has not received Government grant which they are supposed to use to undertake development projects within the municipality.

He disclosed that one of the major challenges they are facing is mobility and accessibility to certain inland villages to carry out Council’s work. “I believe there is bias in the allocation of funding to Local Councils nationwide,” he opined, and urged Government to review its support to the Bonthe Municipal Council in view of the many Chiefdoms and villages that come to them for assistance for their respective localities, especially in the area of education, health, agriculture, etc.

While outlining the construction work that had been undertaken by Council over the years such as the construction of bridges, culverts and feeder roads, Mr. Morrison called on Government to assist them to  achieve their, a major one being protecting the island from floods.
