The first ever African Minerals Independence Peace Football Gala has successfully concluded in Bumbuna town and Pepel respectively. The competition which was held over the weekend was well contested by male and female teams from Bumbuna, Makeni, Lokomasama and African Minerals.

The essence of the gala, according to the African Minerals Director of Communications, Mr. Anthony Navo Jr. is to bring together the young people around the company’s operational areas to showcase their talent in football and to celebrate the country’s 51st   Independence anniversary. In the first female encounter which was between Suba FC of Makeni and Hydro Stars of Bumbuna which lasted for 90 minutes saw Suba FC defeating Hydro Stars three goals to nil from a heart trick goal scored by one striker Marie B. Conteh aka Fabio while the other goals were scored by Mariatu Sesay and Mariama Sawaneh.

Talking to Coach John R. Kamara, he maintained that his team has won many trophies in and out of Makeni including Bellamy, Ernest Bai Koroma and Airtel Rising Star.

He disclosed that defeating Hydro stars was not a surprise to him as his girls are very determined to crush any opponent in the competition.

The match between African Minerals FC and Bumbuna FC was a do- or-die battle as African Minerals Anthony Navo Jr. was in the left wing sweating for goals.

The African Minerals players were so determined to defeat the Bumbuna boys as they attacked them for about fifteen minutes with heavy support from Navo.

However Navo sustained an injury and was quickly rushed out of the field for further treatment. Upon his substitution Bumbuna FC had the opportunity to attack and succeeded in scoring three goals.

African Minerals fought tooth and nail to level the scores but unfortunately the defenders of Bumbuna FC denied them each and every chance and the match ended three goals to nil against to African Minerals.

In another development the encounter between Lokomasama FC and Pepel FC at the Pepel playing Field ended peaceful as the warriors of Lokomasama lost the match by two goals to one.

The Chief Executive Officer of African Minerals, Mr. Moseray Fadika aka Super, presented the sum of five million Leones (Le5m) and five brand new footballs each to the teams for taking part in the gala.
