The difficulties faced by the Tengbeh town community near Red Pump came to an end when the Member of Parliament for Constituency 110, Hon. Chernor Ramadan Maju Bah aka Chericoco constructed two footbridges costing fourteen million (Le14m) to ease the inaccessible crossing points for them during the raining season.
Among the other projects that he has also implemented are educational assistance in the form of scholarships to pupils and students of various institutions, water supply, health, road construction and the provision of recreational facilities.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony on Sunday, May 13 Hon. Chericoco said development planning is the only tool that is necessary to develop a deprived community. He pointed out that the commissioning of the footbridges was not as a result of the coming election but that it was part of his agenda to develop his constituency.
“Since 2007 I started to commission projects in my constituency so this one is not an exception anyway,’’ he stressed.
He stated that footbridges should not be the only development a community should have but that education and employment are also development, adding that an educated community stands to benefit immensely because it is the only human resource that would transform a community and develop the people.
He said employment is also an integral part of development, noting that an employed community is a develop community and advised all present to take good care of their jobs as it is very difficult to get employment.
He stated that public interaction with constituents is a necessary tool for any Parliamentarian so that he/she would be able to understand the problems of the people and provide possible solution to them.
He revealed that very soon the water project at Tengbeh would be completed before the rains as the people need safe drinking water, appealing to the community people to be ready to work with the contractors so that they would complete the project on time. He urged them to participate in community programmes and stop making unnecessary criticisms of the good work of those who are sacrificing to develop the community.
The Member of Parliament called on the youths of the community to add value for their future by going for skills training in order to become self-reliant and have safe futures.
In his remarks, the Constituency Chairman, Mr. Kabba Saio Kamara, commended the Member of Parliament for constructing the two footbridges and thanked the youths for supporting him in his work. He advised them to put politics aside and focus on development for the good of their constituency and country.
In his comments, Councilor Aruna G. Kamara called on the youths to be supportive in promoting their constituency and stated that if the APC gives the symbol to Mr. Suffian Kamara to stand for Councilor, he is ready to support him because they are part and parcel of the same political party. He said he also expects Mr. Suffian Kamara to support him if he is given the symbol to go for a second term.
Talking on behalf of the community, Mrs. Phebean Sesay said they were very happy for the good work Hon. Chericoco has for them.
The ceremony attracted youths, Councilors, community leaders and women and was climaxed by singing, dancing and merry making.
