M2’s ‘Shabe am gee dem’ portraying her substance

The latest release of Miss Mariatu Karim Kamara aka M2, ‘Shabe am gee dem,’ has been rated as the best work so from the female singer, and a fine exhibition of the astute and revered singer whose legacy keeps resonating across the country.

At a recent sensational show that featured big names in the entertainment industry the Cassette Sellers Association (CSA), the Sierra Leone DJ’s Alliance, music promoters and key stakeholders, she was recognised for as the greatest female singer with five albums to her credit, a winner of the SLMTV Awards for 2012 Best Female Album, Biggest Female Show of the year, and one of the best female selling albums at the moment.

It is for all these laureates, that M2  has been honoured with the accolade of Queen of Sierra Leone Music Entertainment at a fabulous and elegant event, the launching of her album, ‘Shabe am gee dem’ at the Brima Attouga Mini Stadium in the east end of Freetown on Saturday May 5 this year.

At the ceremony, the CSA President, DD Abu, thanked the DJs for recognizing the remarkable and stunning character of in the music family. He praised the music stakeholders for their promotion of the female singer, who, within a period of one month, has excelled the zenith of female music in Sierra Leone. Mr. Abu also stated that because of M2’s outstanding and faultless performance and consistence, they have decided tom publicly appreciate her.

While receiving her awards, M2 thanked the industry of singers, promoters, fans and fan clubs, her family, DJ’s, club owners, her Manager DJ Kallox who, she called a “sent from heaven” to her career

M2’s profile spans from a Medicine student after her secondary school and later in 2005 she came to the fore with her group JLC2, with two successful albums, ‘Blow mind’ and ‘Fresh case,’ which lasted for a year. In 2006, she went solo to release her debut, ‘Sweet Africa,’ an album that earned her the envious award of ‘Best Africa Video’ and music tours around the globe. In 2007/08, she released her second album, ‘Special Comforter,’ featuring the popular hit ‘Dibi dibi man,’ featuring the dance hall singer, Raga Spice. In 2008, M2 also released her third album, ‘We must survive,’ a classic that brought her several awards. 2010 was a big year for M2, as she joined Innocent’s Money Making Machine where she released her hugest album, ‘Prove am’ which saw her bag the prestigious SLMTV Best Female Singer 2010/11. However because of power struggle with the label, M2 decided to go back to her solo career with support from her Manager DJ Kallox.

Apparently, M2 is a proud nominee of the 2012 SLMTV Awards as she prepares for a European tour sometime from now. She has called on all her friends and fans and other stakeholders in the music industry to continue to support her.
