Mercury International splashed Le 450 on football

Mercury International, the leading gaming and betting company, yesterday donated the sum of four hundred and fifty million Leones (Le 450,000,000.00) to the football family throughout the country.

Speaking at the ceremony at their 19 Siaka Stevens Street office in Freetown, the company’s Executive Chairman, Mr. Samir Hassanyeh, said they were very happy to sponsor particularly the Salone Premier League and  football in general in the whole country in order to contribute in helping the young people to develop their potentials.

He explained that from the money they have donated each region should receive twenty four million Leones (Le24, 000,000.00) with the districts receiving thirteen million Leones (Le13, 000,000.00) to run their different divisions and female leagues in their respectively localities while the remaining two hundred million Leones (Le200, 000,000.00) should go to the Salone Premier League Board to continue to run the second phase of the league.

He maintained that they will continue to undertake their charity activities and sponsorships of worthy causes throughout the country.

Receiving the cheque on behalf of the Premier League Board, the Chairman of the Board, Mr. Victor Lewis, said he was lost for words as the gesture of Mercury was astounding.

He said the money will be distributed to those concerned, assuring that is will be used for its intended purposes.

He concluded that the Premier Board will always be grateful to Mercury International for their generosity in helping football in the country.
