
The Chairman of the National Telecommunication Commission (NaTCOM), Mr. Seray Timbo has donated the sum of fifteen million Leones (Le15,000,000.00) to the Government Secondary School, Magburaka, commonly referred to as Boys School.
The donation was made during this year’s 62nd anniversary celebrations of the school in Magburaka town, Tonkolili district.
Announcing the gesture, the Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Dr. Minkailu Bah who also chaired the ceremony, thanked the NaTCOM boss and other donors for their donations which he said will go a long way to ameliorate some of the problems facing the school.
While introducing dignitaries who graced the ceremony, Dr. Bah observed that the school was once known as the Oxford of the North and urged the present generation of pupils to maintain that name.
The Education Minister paid tribute to past heads of the school including Rev. Cannon Dr. Modupeh Taylor-Pearce, the composer of the school song and current Pro-Chancellor of the University of Sierra Leone. He commended the former Principal for grooming pupils who have become Ministers, Lawyers and other prominent people in leadership positions including the current President, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma.
In his comments, Mr. Clifford Roberts, Chairman of the Board of Governors, said the school needs to improve its performance in public examinations and management.
In his statement, the President of the Magburaka Old Boy’s Association (MOBA), the Deputy Director General of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT), Mr. Joseph S. Mans Jr., commended the donors for improving the school in diverse ways and applauded the Principal for recent developments since he became Principal of the school. He urged the pupils to emulate the efforts of President Ernest Bai Koroma and Minister of Local Government, Mr. Dauda Kamara, who he said were pupils of discipline and exemplary character.
