The National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone (NOCSL) is expected to distribute one hundred and two million Leones (Le 102 m) to seventeen sporting disciplines under the Committee with each association expected to receive four million five hundred thousand Leone (Le 4.5 m) each to organise one local competition, this paper has been informed.
According to the NOCSL President, Mr. Henry G. Moore, if the budget is approval by the executive, at the end of the competition they would be able to select and sponsor athletes that would represent them in qualifying venues for the Olympic Games.
Mr. Moore further stated that even some disciplines that are not registered for the games would also have some opportunity to spot talented athletes that would represent the country for future international competitions.
In his comments, the NOCSL Vice President, Dr Patrick Coker, said they decided to give the money to these associations to assist them to organize at least one local competition this year.
He also stated that next year they will not give these associations money as they will expect to raise their own funds.
In his comments, the NOCSL’s Secretary General, Mr. Joseph Nyande, said that since they came into office they have done a lot to improve the association.
He said their doors are always open to all members to make enquiries about the operations of the association.
