The Leader and Presidential candidate for the Peoples Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC), Mr. Charles Francis Margai, has told the people of Moyamba District that the PMDC is independent party that is part of the opposition, and not working under the direction of the Sierra Leone People Party (SLPP).

He made this statement on a visit to the district over the weekend to rejuvenate his party membership and also make further clarifications about what he referred to as mis-information that the PMDC has become dysfunctional and was not going to present a Presidential candidate for the forth coming multi tier November elections.

The party’s Organising Secretary, Mr. Tommy Kargbo, in an interview with AYV explained that Mr. Margai and his entourage were received by the Moyamba District Chairman, Mr. Alex Coker, who took them to Mano Dasseh, Mokangi, Gbangatoke, Moyamba town and eight other towns in the District.

He said the main objective of the tour was to properly explain to the people in that part of the country that the PMDC was not in any way meddling with the SLPP leadership and that they are ready to contest and win the forthcoming elections.

He stressed that the PMDC is not ready to affiliate with the SLPP because they have their own ideology different from that of the SLPP.  He said rumours that have going on that they are part and parcel of the SLPP are false and unfounded, meant only to cause confusion in the minds of their members and sympathizers.

“We have never discussed any marriage plans, nor are we ready to pledge our support to the SLPP or the APC because we are strong and determined to govern the country,” Mr. Kargbo said, adding, “We are now stronger than before and very soon we will hold our national convention.”

Mr. Kargbo appealed to all their supporters and sympathizers to stay focused to move the party forward.
