The All Political Party Women’s Association (APPWA) yesterday held a one day consultative meeting with stakeholders at the UNPISIL office to lobby government and stakeholders for the 30% quota to become law.
In an interview with the Public Relations Officer of APPWA, Mrs. Gaturude Karimu of the Sierra Leones Peoples Party (SLPP) said that the 30% Quota Bill 2012 which they have prepared makes provision for men and women to have equal status, opportunities and positions in society.
She also explained that the bill will enable women to overcome some obstacles in gaining positions of trust and vying for political appointments.
She noted that she very happy for the support they continue to receive from UNPISIL in implementing most of their programmes.
She revealed that they currently engaged in lobbying government and Parliament to see the need to pass their bill into law.
She described as very healthy the relationship that has developed them as members from different parties with one goal.
