The National Telecommunications Commission (NATCOM) will host the 7th Annual Connecting Rural Communities Conference for Africa in Freetown this week, this paper has been reliably informed.
In a meeting with Media Managers and Editors, the Director of Legal and Licensing Affairs of NATCOM,Ms. Michaela Mackay said the conference which will last from June 20 t0 21 is being organized by the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) and patronized by the Ministry of Information and Communications.
She revealed that the purpose of the conference is to ensure that the rural areas of Sierra Leone also have access and benefit from the information and communications technology.
She also stated that during the conference they will showcase the progress they have made to bring information and communications technology to the rural areas. She also said that the conference will also serve as a business opportunity forum for investors.
She revealed that they will be receiving support from the mobile companies that they regulate, namely, Airtel, Africell and Comium.
