No light in Kenema Hospital Labour Room

Relatives of patients at the main Government referral hospital in Kenema have revealed to AYV that the Labour Room has gone without light for the past two weeks.

A patient who spoke to our reporter on condition of anonymity said they were requested to buy candles or produce torch lights before the Nurses could attend to the needs of pregnant women who went there to deliver.

When contacted, the Matron of the hospital said she was not in charge of such problems but the Logistic Officer. She said she has earlier made a complaint to the hospital management but they did not give her any desirable response.

The Hospital Secretary, who is also the Logistics Officer, Mr.  Pious J Saffa, when contacted, said he was not even aware of such a development as nobody has ever brought it to his notice.

In a related development, it was reported that the entire hospital goes without light most of the time while other parts of the town enjoy light, a situation most residents described as unfair, inhuman and insensitive.

They say they view such an odd development as sabotage of President Ernest Bai Koroma’s free health care initiative.
