Hon. Paramount Chief Bai Kurr Kanagbaro 111 has called on the Ministry of Transportation and Aviation to put in place standard measures for all transportations in the country.
The Honourable Paramount Chief was speaking on Standing Order 23 in the Well of Parliament on Tuesday this week while he was referring to the recent plane crash in Nigeria and urged the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to put in place measures that would prevent future accidents such as the Nigeria air disaster.
The Paramount Chief used the Well of Parliament to address the spate of accidents in the country and called on aviation authorities to properly check all flights landing or leaving our airports to ensure that they are in good conditions to fly our air space.
On road transportation, he called on the Sierra Leone Road Transport Authority to examine all vehicles before they are issued licenses, adding the Traffic Division of the Police should also ensure that drivers comply with road safety regulations.
He deplored the reckless manner ‘Poda-poda’ drivers and motor bike riders drive on the streets of Freetown and warned that if safety measures are not put in place it will affect the development of the country .
Before the House adjourned for the day, all Members of Parliament rose and observed a minute’s silence for the victims of the Nigerian plane crash in which the lives of more than one hundred and fifty three passengers perished.
