“I am the chief destroyer of the SLPP” Hon. Kombor Kamara

Honorable Member of Parliament for Constituency 56 in the Lokomasama Chiefdom, Port Loko District, Hon. Kombor Kamara, has proudly described himself as the chief destroyer of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) because he made them unpopular to an extent that the green party lost all the Parliamentary seats in Port Loko District in the 2007 elections.

Honorable Kombor was speaking at the official opening of the All Peoples Congress (APC) party new office at Wala Road in Lokomasama Chiefdom, Portloko District, on Wednesday July 18th, 2012 amidst thousands of supporters and some APC party stalwarts.

He recalled that initially, when the symbol was awarded to him by the APC party, he was not a popular candidate, but he still did all he could to further elevate the status of the red party from grace to glory.

He said now that he has grown to become popular beyond the expectations of the people within and outside the district, he was now referred to as ‘the unbreakable man’ for rendering the opposition SLPP candidate in the constituency handicap.  He said as a son of the Lokomasama soil he has contributed greatly to bring development to his people in diverse ways, all in a bid to ensure that the name of the APC party spread like wild fire in the Harmattan. He observed that his record breaking achievements were unchallengeable by all the politicians who have ever being given symbols to contest under the banner of the APC.

Cataloguing his achievements, the Hon. Kombor pointed to the rehabilitation of the Lokomasama market, mosque, schools, as well as the awarding of scholarships to 100 pupils and students from the community. He said the monies he spent were not monies given to him by the Government but from his own pocket. He said even the construction of the new APC office in Lokomasama chiefdom was personally financed by him.

With an air of certainty he said he would clinch the APC party symbol for the second time. He challenged anybody in the chiefdom who thought of himself/herself as a crowd puller to come forward and contest and see whether the people would endorse any person other than him.

He boasted that by the time the multi tier elections drew nearer there would be only 1% SLPP presence left in the district.

Hon Kombor Kamara said the best way to describe him is to recount his slogan ‘send me and remember me’, which, according to him, is built around the positive development he has brought to his chiefdom.

In his statement, the chairman of the occasion who is the Chief Adviser to His Excellency the President, Hon. Alhaji Ibrahim Kemoh Sesay, said they were not actually at the ceremony to talk about the award of party symbols but to formally open the new APC office in the district. However, Hon. Kemoh Sesay revealed that it was deliberate to give Hon. Kombor Kamara the symbol during the 2007 Presidential elections because the SLPP candidate was the most marketable commodity and the only person that put his popularity under the carpet was the Hon. Kombor. He said the Honourable MP assured the party of a Councilor in his Constituency and he gave them one Ward. He said though he was not campaigning for Hon. Kombor, the testimonies of the people were a manifestation of the ability of the MP.

Obai Efith Kamara, the Section Chief of Lokomasama, said mere words were insufficient to trumpet the good things done by Hon. Kombor in the community. He disclosed that many people who did not even vote for the MP have benefited a lot in cash, kind and medication. He revealed that the MP footed the bills of five people from the district to undergo various surgeries.

The Chief Whip in the House of Parliament, Hon Ibrahim Bundu, said he was impressed with the development of his colleague MP and the massive support given to him by his community people which was an indication of his close association with his people. He appealed to his colleague to continue serving his people as that has been the fundamental message of His Excellency the President and the APC party.

He called on all members of the party to commit themselves to the party more than before.

Meanwhile, awarding the development trophy to Hon. Kombor, on behalf of the National Youth League, its President Hon. Alimamy Kamara said the recognition was based on merit.

The cutting of the tape by Hon. Kemoh Sesay to officially open the newly constructed party office climaxed the ceremony.
