Heavy down pour of rain on Friday, July 6, has left four dead following a mudslide at Congo Town off Congo Cross, Freetown.
The victims have been identified as Amadu Koroma, Salamatu Koroma, Fatmata Koroma, and a four year-old girl, Mabinty Koroma, all from the same family. The mudslide reportedly buried all of them alive.
According to Mr. Emmanuel Saidu Conteh, a close friend of the deceased family and who is also a resident of Congo Town , a huge clay boulder rammed into the roof of the house and buried all the occupants. However, he said they were able to dig out the victims and take them to the mortuary.
In a related development, a similar incident occurred on the same day at Water Street, where a nine year-old girl was reported to have died from the blow of a crashing tree.
Another landslide also reportedly claimed the life of eight year-old Isata Kamara at 20c George Brook, Dwazack Farm, while seriouslly injuring a woman identified as Madam Isata. A 15 year-old by the name of Mariama is said to be in coma.
Two other women were also reported killed at New England Ville, and a 50 year-old trader, Maseray Sesay, at Blackhall Road.
