Sierra Leone delegation will be officially welcome to the games

The Sierra Leone delegation into this year’s Olympic Games will be finally welcome to the games on Saturday July 21st at the games Village in Stratford in London.

Speaking about the welcoming ceremony, the leader of delegation, Unisa Deen Kargbo, who also doubles as chef de mission, said  it is very important as the welcoming of countries started since Thursday July  19th 2012 at the games village but Saturday July 21st will be the turn of the Sierra Leone delegation to be officially welcome alongside other countries .

During the welcome ceremony, participating countries will raise their flag and national anthems played. There will also be cultural performances.

Because of this, Kargbo said the Organizing Committee for the London games has made provision for the Sierra Leone delegation to invite at least 20 more people to the officially opening ceremony.

Kargbo also said as a team they have decided to invite some members of the Hastings Community in the UK for their support to the athletes to provide a week’s training ahead of the games. Also members of the Sierra Leone community in London and also members of the High Commission in London have all been invited to be part of the Sierra Leone delegation.

Meanwhile, the Sierra Leone athletes have continued their usual training under coach Abu Kamara (aka Coach Abu White) in the village as both athletes will be competing in the 200m and Long Jump. Ibrahim Turay will be on for 200m on August 6th in Round One while Ola Sesay will be in the Long Jump on August 7th 2012 in the qualifying rounds.

In a related development, Kargbo and two journalists- Bernard Turay and Musa Kamara- paid a courtesy call to the Sierra Leone High Commission in London to brief the High Commissioner, Eddie Turay, about their participation in the games. However, the High Commissionero was absent attending the funeral of the president Ernest Bai Koroma   mother in Makeni in Sierra Leone about training in Hasting the high commissioner and staff will officially receive the Sierra Leone delegation on Tuesday July 31st  2012 during at the high  commission  office in  London.
